Mark qualified as a chartered accountant with Thomson McLintock in London. Following experience in industry he returned to KPMG dealing first with small businesses and latterly specialising in VAT. Mark set up his own practice in Wimbledon in 1995. In 2009 he transferred his business to Henley having acquired a local practice, and set up Buffery & Co Limited.
Mark is a tax specialist, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the VAT Practitioners Group. He sits as a member on the First Tier Tax Tribunals, the body which hears appeals by taxpayers against decisions made by HMRC.
Mark is married to Karen and they have two grown up children, both at university. In his spare time Mark plays tennis to a good standard, is permanently working on his golf game and enjoys skiing with the family.
Tom joined the practice in July 2013 and, having taken 8 months off to see the world, is now training for his professional qualifications with the firm. He is a keen traveller, preferring adventure over relaxation in his time off. His most recent exploration took him to Iceland in the snow, although having failed to spot the northern lights, he is keen to explore further.
Sam has joined the firm to train for his professional qualifications. A recent graduate in Accounting and Finance from Brighton University, Sam is a big sports fan – football in particular, and is to be found either playing or watching at the weekend.
Karen is responsible for the Company’s HR function together with billing and debt chasing. When not at work Karen enjoys walking her 3 dogs and is learning to love gardening.
Beth joins the team this Spring moving from a career in retail. She enjoys travelling - especially city breaks around Europe and has visited a number of places over the last few years. Her favourite city so far is Budapest. Beth loves trying new food and eating out with family and friends.
Katie joined the company in late August 2017 having moved from a career in fashion having made the decision to train for her professional qualifications with the ICAEW. In her spare time, Katie enjoys reading, writing and walking the family dog. She has recently taken up pottery.
Tom started with the company at the end of the Summer 2017 having recently completed his A’Levels. Tom will train for his ICAEW professional qualifications with the firm. One of Tom’s main hobbies and interests is rowing, and not content with one sport, he has recently returned to playing rugby.
