Mark qualified as a chartered accountant with Thomson McLintock in London. Following experience in industry he returned to KPMG dealing first with small businesses and latterly specialising in VAT. Mark set up his own practice in Wimbledon in 1995. In 2009 he transferred his business to Henley having acquired a local practice and set up Buffery & Co Limited.
Mark is a tax specialist, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the VAT Practitioners Group. He sits as a member on the First Tier Tax Tribunals, the body which hears appeals by taxpayers against decisions made by HMRC.
Mark is married to Karen and they have two grown up children. In his spare time Mark plays tennis to a good standard, is permanently working on his golf game and enjoys skiing with the family.
Karen is married to Mark and is responsible for the HR and Accounts function of the business. In her spare time, she enjoys walking the family dogs Tiggy & Cora. Karen has also recently taken up Reformer Pilates and has a newfound appreciation for gardening.
Katie has been with the company since 2017 and has the distinction of being our first student who has trained on the dual track, qualifying both as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA). Katie has surprised herself by finding tax much more interesting than she thought.
In her spare time Katie enjoys reading, writing, walking the family dog and is an accomplished pottery thrower!
James has been with the company since late 2018 and is quietly passing exams with remarkable success, including winning first prize nationally in one of his exams. His hobbies including playing guitar, watching Netflix and spending time with his family. He is also planning some serious travelling once fully qualified.
Update: We are thrilled to announce that James has successfully passed his final exams and is now a fully qualified Chartered Accountant.
Sam joined us in late 2023 as an apprentice having recently successfully completed his A-Levels. His hobbies are running, golfing and volunteering.
He is very keen to get started on his professional career but less keen on commuting from Hampshire!
